About

John Deakin was a key figure in the 1950s and 60s London art and photography scene. Capturing the bohemian Soho of the time, he photographed many of its artistic regulars such as Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach and Francis Bacon as well as lesser-known Soho figures including tradesmen, vagrants and outsiders. Deakin's body of work is an evocative record of life in and around Wardour, Dean, Frith and Greek Streets. The exhibition is curated by Robin Muir and accompanied by a book published by Art/Books in association with the John Deakin Archive and The Photographers' Gallery.
