aspex is preparing itself to embrace the exciting potential and certain uncertainties surrounding its latest project as it invites four selected artists to spend time making work in its main gallery space. An open call was made for artists, working in any media, living within a one- hour journey of the gallery to apply for the opportunity to use our main space as a studio, in which they will exhibit existing pieces and produce new work. All seemingly straightforward, but there is a twist. Rotate Response will begin with four artworks by the four selected artists (Anna Pickering, Jon Lockhart, Matt Parsons, Jo Willoughby) who will then spend time working in the gallery each producing three response pieces to one another's new and recent works. The end result will be a show of sixteen works — four by each of the artists. Visitors to the gallery will have access to the space throughout the duration of Rotate Response, along the opportunity to meet with the artists to witness their diverse methods and use of materials. This exhibition continues aspex‘s commitment to help open up the creative process and demystify the sometimes opaque world of contemporary visual art by bringing artists and visitors together.
