Neil Pinkett was born in St Just on the tip of Cornwall and so has grown up surrounded by the sea and this familiarity of looking at its constantly changing colour and movement is evident in this very accomplished new body of work.
Paintings like ‘Atlantic Waves’ are beautiful in their simplicity. Painted with his trademark limited palette, there is a strong abstract component to his painting in his emphasis of the horizontals and also a tremendous sense of movement in the clouds and waves. This combination of abstraction, figuration and movement givies his work a great sense of timelessness and freshness and I think this is the appeal to Pinkett’s many admirers.
