Photography and video exploring the complexities of cultures and their relationships with one another.

About

Forty7gallery+7coco presents a new series of work by Jason Shenai,

The four projects in this exhibition explore aspects of journeying and reflect the complexity of portraying differing heritages. Sorong is a piece that combines images of the eponymous town with tribal artifacts creating a battle zone between different cultures. Tribal Glass explores the relationship between our past and our present with reference to our colonial background. KT is a video work documenting a journey through a familiar yet exotic urban landscape. Shot in a Square uses a black and white photojournalistic approach but presents a wry look at urban and other scenes. The projects were shot in Ethiopia, Indonesia and Kentish Town. They represent a journey of photographic discovery through landscapes real and imaginary.

Jason Shenai is a London based photographer, he is
founder and director of of Millennium Images (www.milimgallery.com.), and in charge of the Documentary Photography module at Westminster University.
