Artist Jason File shows the most recent work in his Instructions" series, which blurs real life and performance art in an environment where members of the audience may, or may not, be performing at any given time."

About

Jason File creates an immersive performance involving a series of individual secret instructions presented in sealed envelopes to each audience member. By converting every audience member into a potential performer during the course of an evening at the theatre, File destabilizes the reality of the social environment in the Ovalhouse space. Extending beyond an investigation of site specificity, File's work explores event specificity with a performance tailored for one moment in time, which uses its institutional and social context as a material. By creating and exploiting overlaps between real life and art objects or events, File poses urgent questions about how context defines our behaviour in subtle and often unattended ways. Jason File is joint winner of this year's Ovalhouse Prize awarded to Chelsea College of Art graduates. www.jasonfile.com
