About

Derek Shiel is one of the foremost authorities on DavidJones, one of the greatest painter-poets of the 20th century. This was a man who continued and developed the tradition of creativity in both word and image which we see in William Blake, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Morris and Isaac Rosenberg. Shiel has curated exhibitions and made films about Jones, as well as co-writing one of the most authoritative books on this complex and significant figure, David Jones: The Maker Unmade. He was well qualified to do so, being himself a poet and having been a distinguished student of the visual arts at Edinburgh College of Art. The third in a series of films about David Jones is to be released soon.
