AN EVENING OF MUSIC by quartetto prometeo

rosenfeld porcini is proud to present a series of three exclusive performances to launch its 2014 cultural programme.

Although a contemporary gallery, rosenfeld porcini values a multidisciplinary approach both through its curated yearly themed exhibitions and more recently the initiation of a cultural program focusing on one off niche events involving artists across all disciplines. The cultural programme ranges from performance (dance, sound, theatre, film), debates and conferences where the public, academics, artists, and professionals are invited to discuss, experience, and explore art in its widest sense.

The internationally acclaimed string ensemble Quartetto Prometeo is travelling to London to give an exclusive performance at rosenfeld porcini. The concert will center around the re-elaborations of Bach; Mexican and Spanish folk themes by the recently deceased renowned composer and double bassist Stefano Scodanibbio (1956- 2012). Francesco Dillon – a member of the group, will give a short introduction into the life and work of Scodanibbio. The Quartet has made numerous recordings, the most recent of which is the critically acclaimed disc on the cult German label ECM, ‘Stefano Scodanibbio – Reinventions’ (2013).

The performance begins at 8:00pm and will last 75 minutes with intermission.

Currently quartet-in-residence at the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Quartetto Prometeo boast an impressive list of accolades that stretch back over the past two decades. The Quartet is renowned for combining classical repertoires with highly contemporary works. Performing internationally, the group has been awarded numerous important scholarships and prizes, such as the 50th ‘Prague Spring International Music Competition’ (1998); the ‘Thomastik Infeld’ prize at the Internationale Sommer Akademie Prag-Wien-Budapest (1999); and the Special Bärenreiter Prize at the ARD Münich Competition (2000).
Due to Quartetto Prometeo’s collaborations with the acclaimed Italian contemporary composer Salvatore Sciarrino, the latter has dedicated two pieces ‘Esercizi di tre stili’ and ‘Quartetto n.8’ to the Quartet, which have been recorded under the Kairos label (2013). Qartetto Prometeo’s most recent album ‘Stefano Scodanibbio – Reinventions’ (2013) has been highly critically acclaimed and can be found under the cult German label ECM.
“The late Stefano Scodanibbio was a sound-sculptor of unmatched imagination, as demonstrated in this radical programme of string quartet arrangements of Bach, Spanish guitar music and Mexican popular songs, performed with quicksilver grace by Quartetto Prometeo.” 5/5 Stars. (The Independent)
