A BODY, MY HEADS

About

A BODY, MY HEAD is a series of sculptures as well as an experimental installation from the artist studio practice. A BODY was inspired by a baby doll found as a lost property. The work is made as a statue of a nameless doll and it has a universal sense of loss and a quality of forgotten memories. On the other hand, the works of MY HEAD represent subjectivity, personal feeling and emotion. MY HEADS are the artist self-portraits and have expressions of desires and struggle in life. The series of sculptures, MY HEADS has a practical sequence of A BODY. ‘After I made a body of the baby doll, I had started considering about its head in my curiosity. In the process of making experimental pieces of heads, some of the pieces had been completed as different sculptures in different concepts. I ended up creating several individual sculptures; however I am interested in showing them together as a continuation of my studio practice and finding out the connection of A BODY and MY HEADS.' Chiho Iwase, born in Japan, lives and works in London. Studied sculpture at Chelsea College of Art & Design and also learned painting and drawing in Japan. Her practice is motivated by the remains of her childhood fantasy and she attempts to express the situation in which infantilism uncontrollably comes out in her adulthood. Her sculptures are portraits of her inner monstrous characters and the conflict between maturity and childishness in her mind is projected in her sculptures as weird creatures. www.chihoiwase.com
