The ARKA Group - The mud formed a finger, pointed

About

Space In Between (SIB) is delighted to present The mud formed a finger, pointed - a new film installation by the ARKA Group (Ben Jeans Houghton & Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau) created in collaboration with dancer and choreographer Nicole Vivien Watson. Commissioned by SIB, The mud formed a finger, pointed is a study of the human body as an uncanny object that oscillates between figuration and abstraction, body and material, depicting an object becoming human, a human becoming an object and the protean states between. The mud formed a finger, pointed merges the aesthetics of "Messyplay" with movements informed by the Japanese dance form, Butoh. The mud formed a finger, pointed is a contemporary creation myth that melds object and subject, non-human and human. By invoking the narrative imagery of creation myths where humans are formed from the earth, the film installation links our understandings of the contemporary body and our imaginings of a primordial past. The mud formed a finger, pointed will be shown in a former chapel space at Sutton House, a National Trust Tudor property in Homerton, East London, throughout February. Space In Between (off-site) Sutton House 2-4 Homerton High Street London E9 6JQ
