About

Professor Gordon Bell explores the rise of watercolour painting and printmaking through the works of Francis Nicholson (1753—1844). The Pickering-born artist was an influential drawing master and pioneer of the art of lithography, whose legacy is illustrated by the paintings and prints on show in the exhibition ‘Francis Nicholson and the Lure of the Picturesque' (17 May —15 June) at the Inspired by… gallery. After the lecture, Professor Bell will lead a conducted tour of the exhibition. Please reserve in advance.
