A survey of worrk by Jordan McKenzie
About
The Centre for Recent Drawing presents Spent, an exhibition of the work of Jordan McKenzie from 10 January ' 1 February 2008. The exhibition will feature McKenzie's Spent series amongst a broader survey of his work, including his online residency with C4RD.During the last decade, McKenzie has produced a significant body of work that includes performance, installation, drawing and sonic art. Some of the works on display, collectively entitled Spent, are works are produced using human bodily fluids: the artist ejaculates on a sheet of drawing paper and covers it with a layer of carbon dust. When dry, the excess dust is removed, leaving a black imprint.
McKenzie's drawing challenges the individuated drawing, having its authority subsumed to a larger language and context by setting up elaborate and physically demanding methodologies.
