Using lo-fi materials such as cardboard and watercolour allows Helen to draw and paint quickly and copiously, creating a strange world of odd characters and abstract designs. Grotesque, cute, weird and humorous; bof! began life as automatic drawings and doodles, inspired by daydreams and a collection of absurd found imagery. Helen's approach involved letting the drawings develop spontaneously as she drew. In places an image from an old book or magazine was taken out of context and adapted to give it a new, oblique interpretation.
