About

'ALL work and no PLAY makes you a dull DESIGNer': An exhibition about the creative benefits of play for all. 30 October — 15 November 2013 Monday-Friday 10am-4pm Avenue Gallery The School of The Arts The University of Northampton, Avenue Campus St. George's Avenue Northampton NN2 6JD Tel: 01604 893050 Email: gallery@northampton.ac.uk ‘All Play...' is an exhibition about the creative benefits of play for all that has been organised by Vicki Thomas and Friedemann Schaber, Senior Lecturers in Product Design at The University of Northampton's School of The Arts. The idea for the exhibition grew from a series of collaborative research projects between the School of The Arts' staff and students and local toy manufacturers, which highlighted the key role that Northamptonshire and the surrounding area has played in the mass production of toys in the twentieth century. The region still forms a key national hub in the toy trade today. The exhibition showcases some of these projects, alongside loans of classic toys from Bassett Lowke, Mettoy and Rosebud. It also features the work of Paul and Marjorie Abbatt, teachers who moved into toy production; and Roger Limbrick, who played a key role in the development of toy libraries and designs for people with disabilities. The overall theme is that play is a creative activity that is beneficial to all, regardless of age or ability. The exhibition runs at the University's Avenue Campus Gallery from 30 October — 15 November and is open Monday — Tuesday, 10am-4pm. For more information contact the Gallery on 01604 893050 or email gallery@northampton.ac.uk.
