About

Memorial Exhibition for Brian Taylor, Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and Vice President of the Society of Portrait Sculptors. The figurative sculptor was born in Sutton and educated at Epsom School of Art. He was given his first exhibition at Zwemmer's gallery, aged just 16. From there he went on to study at the Slade School of Art (between 1954 to 1958) and was given a one-person sculpture exhibition at the Babuinetta Gallery in Rome, in 1960. He returned to Britain in 1965, taking up a position in a new sculpture department at Camberwell School of Art. In 1971, he visited the beautiful Serra di Burano, a mountain range in Italy, where he was very impressed by a local rare breed of giant horse. This culminated in his 1972 monumental bronze, Burano Horse. Taylor was elected as Vice Principal of the Society of Portrait Sculptors in 2010, a significant tribute from his fellow members. There are daily guided tours of the exhibition between 2 and 4pm. Free Entry. Ben Uri, The London Jewish Museum of Art, has a Gallery in St John's Wood (North London). You can visit us at 108A Boundary Road, London NW8 0RH. Tel: +44 (0)207 604 3991.
