NEW COURSE: Drypoint and Carborundum with Dolores de Sade

About

This one day course will explore the simplest methods for producing intaglio prints. Participants will create prints by drawing using a sharp point and course grit to produce rich and varied effects, combining line drawing with rich tone and texture. Whistler and Picasso offer the best examples of such work, which lends itself equally well to considered or technical drawing and to expressive gestural markmaking. This course will explore a range of plates, most of which are cheap and easy to work with. Participants will create their own plates and learn to print using dampened paper and an etching press. They will have both plates and finished prints to take home with them. This course is suitable for both beginners and people with some experience in other areas of intaglio printmaking.à‚ They may wish to further their study by taking a follow on course in etching. Participants will have enough practice of the techniques shown to be able to continue to experiment further on their own in Open Access.à‚  à‚  Dolores de Sade (ARE) is an artist and graduate of Royal College of Art. Dolores has 20 years of printmaking experience and has been teaching since 2008. She has been awarded the British Institution Award by the Royal Academy and the Birgit Skiold Award for Excellence in artists' books. As well as her own artistic practice, she works on commissions and editions for outside clients and artists, from Christiane Baumgartner to the Royal College of Art and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
