Louis Boudreault: Destinies
In contemporary art we are now well accustomed to images that celebrate equally contemporary heroes and heroines of all kinds. We are also familiar with the fascination of old photographs and we tend to find old photographs of children particularly touching, for several reasons. Both the clothes and the actual physical attitudes of their small subjects evoke past epochs more powerfully than any description in words. Louis Beaudreault's enlarged portraits speak of memories and destinies and appeal to our innate sense of the sacred – the sacredness of genius, the sacredness of power. They show genius and power in embryo, but unmistakably present. This is what makes them peculiarly memorable – they linger in the mind.
