For this new Self Assembly session Artquest is proud to present speaker Dan Thompson, artist and writer. Dan was instrumental in creating the Empty Shops Network in 2008; when the recession started to bite and a huge number of shops on the high street closed, the Empty Shops Network and its ning helped artists to join forces to access empty spaces, liaise with landlords and create a variety of pop-up shops and events all over the country. Five years later how has the scene changed? Is it still possible for artists to find empty spaces to start an artists' studio or organize your own exhibition? And is it worth the effort?
