NOWFALMOUTH Takes Over Town Hall: Falmouth Graduates Exhibit in Basement of Shoreditch Town Hall, this September

About

On the 20th September 48 artists who have recently graduated from Falmouth University will occupy the basement at Shoreditch Town Hall, exhibiting a rich range of contemporary works, giving London an opportunity to discover the talent on offer from Cornwall's art scene. On the 20th September all are welcome to witness the opening event, running from 5.30-8.30pm; the artists involved will be present, allowing a conversation to emerge between the new talent and the established environment. The NOWFALMOUTH group was formed out of a determination to express what it means to graduate from Falmouth art school in 2013. Hoping to undo the clichés surrounding the Cornwall art scene, NOWFALMOUTH will bring an eclectic mix of sculpture, print, drawing, painting and installation to form an exciting and conversation-sparking exhibition in Shoreditch. Driven as individuals to develop their practice independently, the artists sit together as a varied group, connected through their collective experience and understanding of Falmouth. Placed within the underbelly of the town hall in Shoreditch, the exhibition will be available for visitors to uncover the potential on offer by the artists, and to discover within the alternative space myriad rooms and corridors enclosing new thoughts and exciting works. Open to the public from 9.30am until 6pm every day between the 20th and the 24th September, visitors can stay to talk to artists — many of whom will be present throughout the run of the exhibition - or just pop in for a quick look. Some works will also be available to purchase, at the discretion of individual artists. The artists have a blog that shows a developing archive of their work over the past 10 months, along with links to individual websites and blogs. Those who can't wait until the event in September can visit nowfalmouth.tumblr.com to check out what's on offer from the NOWFALMOUTH artists. NOWFALMOUTH are excited by the challenge of exhibiting in such a remarkable space, staking their claim on a small but significant patch of London. The show will be occupying the basement from the 20th until the 24th September. Please join the artists for the opening event on the evening of the 20th from 5.30pm at Shoreditch town hall basement. Everyone is welcome to witness a new phase of ideas — come for a drink, a chat and for a discovery of new artistic talent.
