Florence Peake: MAKE

Florence Peake's MAKE, co-produced by Artsadmin and Dance Art Foundation in association with BALTIC, focuses on sculpture and the performative nature of making object-based artwork. Performed at BALTIC, Gateshead on Saturday 6 July and Sunday 7 July, MAKE takes an irreverent look at how sculpture is created, displayed and maintained. A task force of ten women build and then dismantle a monolithic structure through a series of choreographed tasks; ritualising, parodying and unveiling the often hidden labour of art-making. Through playful acts of absurd endeavour, MAKE deconstructs the traditional reverence towards and god-like status of the artist as author.
