Jill Walker - new sculptures

About

We are very excited to be showing a new collection by Cheshire-based artist Jill Walker. Her work literally flew out of the door last Autumn, and she has created a new collection of work based on observations on garden wildlife. 'In my new collection of work I have enjoyed depicting the graceful yet playful character of the birds that visit my garden. They inhabit found and altered objects releasing new life into the otherwise discarded and over-looked.' 'Birds, as referenced in folklore, are also a recurring motif, for me they are custodians, keepers and protectors of our memories and personal stories.' Jill Walker specialises in creating delicate and poigniant works using found objects, wire and ceramic. She investigates the hold that we have on certain objects, and in turn, the hold that they have on us - we keep things long after they have outlived their usefulness. 'We hoard, store, place and contain these objects in our adult homes and with the time graft on new layers of meaning,' she explains. 'These personal treasures gather new memories and associations as they travel with us through our lives.'
