About
We store information at home, work and as society. The Rescued Items from Babel series represents self-portraits in staged environments of stored information in order to explore the failings and aspirations of visual, verbal, and written communication. They are also a metaphor for the human condition with regard to planning, self-sabotage, and aspiration. The exhibition also presents work from the Urbicide series that reconstructs suburban architecture to develop the idea of 'uncommunication' where the original photographs provide the raw material for their own reconstruction. The buildings visible in the photographs are from the costal town, Saltdean, in the South East. These buildings are 'reduced' and mass-produced to become dehumanised boxes or containers rather than homes.
