About

Drawing on the ideas explored in one of our current exhibitions Painting in the 2.5th Dimension, the panel of leading artists, writers and curators will discuss contemporary painting practices that rethink the conventional mediums of the discipline. The event will focus on the ways in which painting's relationship to performativity and time-based media question the binary positions of abstraction and representation and challenge the distinction between process and content.

Artists Oscar Murillo and Yelena Popova, and artist and writer David Ryan will each give a short presentation on their practice followed by a discussion chaired by Ellen Mara De Wachter, Zabludowicz Collection curator.

Drinks from 6.30pm
Panel discussion starts at 7pm

Further information on speakers:
Oscar Murillo combines painting with objects, video and participatory installation to explore geographies of space and cultural displacement.

Yelena Popova works with painting, video and installation. Her practice explores the balance between representation and abstraction to consider art's relationship to the social and political.

David Ryan uses painting, critical writing and contemporary music to investigate notions of abstraction and indeterminacy.
