About

Lisson Gallery presents ‘Fusiform Gyrus', a group exhibition of 14 artists selected by Lithuanian curator Raimundas MalaŠ ¡auskas. The exhibition is centred on concepts of the ‘Fusiform Gyrus', the region of the human brain that controls facial recognition. MalaŠ ¡auskas has invited artists to create new works of painting, sculpture, photography, poetry, performance and installation throughout both Lisson Gallery spaces, with the title of each work an anagram, or misreading, of ‘Fusiform Gyrus'. Highlights include a holographic laser, a sculpture made from conflicting flavours of yoghurt, a fully laid table crawling across the floor, and three giant pairs of trousers walking, laughing and whispering to each other. Following the critical success of MalaŠ ¡auskas' Lithuania and Cyprus Pavilions at the 2013 Venice Biennale, the exhibition features artists from the curator's homeland of Lithuania alongside artists from Argentina, Belgium and Britain. ‘Fusiform Gyrus' promises to be an original glimpse into international contemporary art.
