Contemporary Photography NOW is Surface Gallery's annual open submissions exhibition dedicated to showcasing the practice of emerging and established artists working in the medium of photography. In recent years there has been a renewed awareness of the many uses to which photography is being put in contemporary art; from investigations into the material presence of photographs and the role of these materials in conveying meaning, to experimentation with the abstracted nature of photographic vision, a huge range of different approaches to working with the medium can be seen. Contemporary Photography NOW will explore the sheer diversity to be found in contemporary photographic practice, and provides a platform for today's talented artists to show new work in an independent contemporary art gallery.
