About
Dale Mackie won the 20-21 Visual Arts Centre Open Exhibition in 2012 and presents a new exhibition of drawings created especially for the venue based on steelmaking in Scunthorpe.
Scunthorpe's Men Of Steel features charcoal drawings of Scunthorpe Steelworks and the men who used to work there. Dale researched photographs taken from the Tata archive documenting the history of steelmaking in the region. The artist was interested in the more earthy realistic charm of these historical photographs documenting silhouetted figures, shimmering in the intense heat generated by the blast furnaces.
