About
Veduta Romantica features a dark, fantastical and foreboding panoramic landscape through dramatic, new photographs by artist, Gayle Chong Kwan. The images reveal a landscape constructed from chocolate, confectionary and packaging based on idealised towns, utopian social planning, tourism and research by Chong Kwan at Bourneville Village and Cadbury World. The work also references myths and accounts of colonial encounters in the 'new world' and the terrain of the places where the cocoa bean was found and from which it is now exported.Cockaigne is a series of large-format photographs based on 14th century ideas of a glutton's paradise, a land made entirely out of food and drink. The photographs in Cockaigne join together to create extraordinary vistas from a variety of sculpted foods to explore utopian ideals of paradise, fantasy and the pursuit of the exotic in global tourism.
