An Exhibition of paintings by Tim Patrick 'SOMETHING,ELSEWHERE'

The painings in the exhibition look at the potential for meaning in the representation of things. Spaces, light, motifs from religious paintings feature in the works. Have previously studied at a classical painting atelier in Florence, Italy, Patrick's paintings have a look which links them to the past, though with a painterly lens focused on the present.

"In my paintings, I am growing my own garden of signs, analogous to the world in which I live. Brought up Catholic, all things exist under a blanket of meaning which ebbs and flows with corresponding waves of doubt. It is the representation of these signs through painting which I am concerned with. Sculptures of sand, rooms curated with interiors of arranged meaning, motifs from religious paintings and past artists; all are becoming part of my developing iconography, and my growing garden."

Tim was earlier this year, shortlisted for the Sainsbury's Scholarship in Painting and Sculpture, and Longlisted for the Woon Foundation Art Prize.

Exhibition runs at Gallery40 until the 9th of June and coincides with the Graduate Show at the University of Brighton, where Tim is exhibiting alongside his peers.
