Edwina Ashton's sculpture, videos, performances and drawings create oblique and absurd concoctions of character and narrative. Her work explores the allure of eccentricity and the peculiarity to be found in the everyday to expose the gentle tragedies embedded in our social expectations.

For her new exhibition at WORKS|PROJECTS, Ashton will make a sculptural installation that includes intermittent elements of live performance. The new work creates a scene ' perhaps it is a beauty spot, or somewhere isolated where nature can be encountered. But the place is full of other people, and a disappointing snack bar selling disappointing biscuits. It is a beautiful place. But with a car park. There is the expectation of the special ' and the inverse disappointment that frames it matter-of- factly. An annoying clattering is coming from the snack bar....
