WORKS ON PAPER 8th May — 19th May 2013 The Brick Lane Gallery, E16HR Preview: Wednesday 8th May, 6pm — 8.30pm DAVID WHITFIELD |DELTOIDHEAD | ISSY CRANSTOUN | KIRSTEN BASKETT| LYN MELVILLE-JAMES | LOCKSLEY BRYAN | MERVE DINC | MAREK BRAUN | PHIL BURGER | SHEELAGH PEACE The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present our first Works on Paper exhibition as part of our ART IN MIND group exhibition series. Works on Paper will present a selection of printmakers and illustrators from the UK and abroad, in an exciting and diverse exhibition of these mediums, this May. David Whitfield explores the human psyche in a series of beautifully detailed drawings on paper - the artists own visual interpretations of the human subconscious. In contrast to David's work, UK based artistSheelagh Peace presents extremely colourful drawings, influenced by exotic fashion and surface patterns. Also working in illustration, Phil Burger will combine both a local British subject matter, with traditional Japanese style of drawing. London PrintmakerKirsten Basket has created paper models cast in resin, combining raw materials such as stamp albums, dress patterns, and photographs, to create frozen, suspending and floating works on paper which mirror preserved scientific specimens. Also based in London, printmaker Lyn Melville-James' monotype Lithograph prints explore the use of colour in response to natural energy in the landscape. Locksley Bryan will also utilise traditional printmaking techniques with his series of figurative woodcut prints. Art in Mind | Works on Paper will also explore more urban and modern culture through illustrations presented by two overseas artists. Hamburg'sMarek Braunpresents his Skull series which combines mediums of painting, drawing, stencil graffiti and screen-printing to create pieces which revolve around consumer culture, modern society and pop-art. Similarly Australian artist, IssyCranstoun has a strong street-art inspired style in her work. Issy, who is predominantly a large-scale wall artist, will scale back her illustrations in this gallery exhibition but will continue to explore the ‘quirk' as she does in all of her art. Art in Mind | Works on Paper will be presented between the 8-19 May 2013. You are invited to join our event and opening preview on Wednesday the 8 May between 6pm — 8.30pm.
