PHOTOGRAPHY NOW 8th - 19th May The Brick Lane Gallery — The Annexe, E16HR Preview: Wednesday 8th April 6pm -8.30pm JANNAH BRITT-GREEN | DANIEL T GILMARTIN | DUDA CARVALHO | LORNA WILSON | KADIE SCHMIDT-HACKENBERG/ROLAND SCHMIDT |MAEVE BUCKENHAM|RAFAEL HIERRO RIVERO This Photography Now exhibition is our third Art in Mind photography exhibition with the standard equally as high. The exhibition ranges from the very beautiful fine art photographs by Jannah Britt-Greento the digitally reconstructed photography of DudaCarvalho and Daniel T Gilmartin. Jannah Britt-Green's photographs verge on the side of the decorative whilst prompting the viewer to have a second look at what first appears to be abstract painting. The prints are in fact representing the unique backdrops of life; many of which were only moments away from being covered or painted over, their nature never to be the same again. The theme of change continues with German based Daniel T Gilmartin who is interested in the notion of transition and how we relate to the environment around us. He explores this in his photographs by using overlays and a fading subject, leaving the viewer wondering if the subject was remembering/revisiting, or identifying themselves through place and state. Lorna Wilson's work has a similar theme, explored in a very different manner. Wilson used to work as a microbiology Biomedical Scientist (BMS) which arguably now instructs and influences her practise. Wilson's photography focuses on capturing seasonality and natural cycles in the UK. In this exhibition the clinical white background in her images help to emphasise the beauty and subtle change of the floral subject matter she captures — documenting their transformation over time. DudaCarvalho's striking photographs don't need much explanation, his eye for capturing and recreating a moment is obvious and the final images are superb. In this exhibition he has chosen to show only one image in large scale format. This is from his series 'Sketch on Wild'. Every element of his images have been photographed and digitally constructed to create the final piece. Kadie Schmidt-Hackenberg/Roland Schmidt are showing two large glamorous profile pieces which have been drawn over to reveal more than one face. Lilli Waters is showing some seemingly delicate and beautiful works showing the majestic in high realism. The exhibition also contains the emotive ocean photographs by Rafael HierroRiveroand photography from Maeve Buckenham whose artwork explore feminine subjectivity with its multidisciplinary roots in a diverse scope of art forms including mythology, primitivism and literature.
