About

New York based artist Cory Arcangel (beige) is an artist, musician, DJ and computer geek, well known for his approach to 'creative hacking' and subversive use of technology.

The main focus of the exhibition is a major new piece of work titled, 'a couple thousand short films about Glenn Gould'. For this two screen video installation Arcangel has arranged selections of Johann Sebastian Bach's 1741 composition The Goldberg Variations (BWV 988).

To produce this work Arcangel has taken numerous examples of home made videos from popular video sharing websites and re-edited them note by note into sections from Bach's composition, each screen carrying a melodic line.

The exhibition also presents a selection of other works by Arcangel including the seminal work I Shot Andy Warhol where the player slips into the role of Valerie Solanas, the woman who tried to assassinate Warhol in 1968.

In all Arcangel's works, technology and pop culture converge and are sustained by performances where the artist grants access to his research and process without any hierarchy or control.
