Walk my Downland Ways A marriage of the arts - painting and poetry. Sue Bartlett (Rottingdean Writers Group) has written a poem that transports you on a walk through Downland ways, inspired by Janice Thurston's paintings. Janice's work is an emotional and personal response to landscape. Currently, it focuses on the countryside around Ditchling Beacon, an area of ancient histories, wildness and human traces fashioned by agriculture. I am interested in the sublime vastness of big spaces; the transformations that are relentlessly taking place as the seasons evolve and the colours alter. The shifting light and its effect on the shape and form of the contours of the land produce semi-abstract patterns in the landscape, and these also hold a fascination.
