RA Forum: The Poetic Image in the Age of Digital Image-Making

About

For the influential Marxist critic, Walter Benjamin, the reproduction of the work of art eroded the ‘aura' and authority of the original. Today, the mass (re)production and dissemination of images has reached a level Benjamin could scarcely have imagined. In this event, we discuss whether Benjamin's point still holds, and in the ‘Age of Digital Image-Making' what possibilities exist for the poetic image. Speakers include Howard Caygill and Julian Stallabrass. Chaired by David Ward. About the RA Forum The Royal Academy Forum is the RA's long-established forum for public debate on the arts, exploring ideas at the intersections of different artistic and creative practices, and their interface with philosophical, political, social and economic issues and contexts.
