About

My first abstract paintings explored colour and colour alone, but gradually, I became bolder and started to experiment, using various materials with the paint. I began to convey specific ideas in an abstract way, and as time has gone by, I have experimented with all kinds of objects such as broken glass, vinyl, shells, netting, cigarette ends and so on, which raise up the surface, creating different textures and sculptural effects. My art training also encouraged me to be true to myself, in other words, to create work which reflected my own identity, interests and outlook. As I am interested in what is going on in the world, some of my concerns are represented in the paintings. For example, ‘ Another whale dead' aims to portray the effect of a harpoon upon a whale, an act of barbarity which, in my view, should be made illegal throughout the world. As can be seen, the paintings are very diverse in terms of subject matter, colour, texture, size, and materials used. Various techniques have been applied with the paint, along with a range of implements including rollers, sponges, palette knives, and the traditional brushes. If you would like to discuss any aspect of my work, or have any questions , please contact me on: 07811993720. About the Artist I was born in Bucks, where I spent my childhood, and where members of my family still live. I have lived in London for many years now, although I love going to the coast, and exploring the countryside. I have always been interested in art and architecture, but have no formal art qualifications (apart from art ‘O' level, as it was then.) For many years, I attended life drawing classes, working in pastel, charcoal, chalk and pencil and then was encouraged by a tutor to broaden my art experience. So, I went to the City Lit. in Covent Garden, and undertook a two year Foundation Course which covered drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture. This gave me the confidence to paint, and the attic at home was converted into a studio.
