About

Back by popular demand… Towner is delighted to offer another opportunity to follow in the Footsteps of Ravilious, led by author and Ravilious expert Andy Friend. On this guided walk you will explore Eric Ravilious's love of the South Downs, and the landscape and locations which inspired him. Andy will guide you around a number of the Sussex sites that feature in Ravilious's works, including Furlongs, Mount Caburn, Beachy Head and the greenhouse at Firle — with a stop off at the Ram in Firle for a pub lunch. If time allows we will also stop at Cuckmere Haven and Newhaven Harbour, where Ravilious worked with Edward Bawden in the mid-thirties and as a war artist in 1940. There will also be opportunity to hone your photographic skills, capturing some of Ravilious's most iconic compositions! The bus departs Towner at 10am and returns around 4pm. Please turn up at 9.45am for registration and boarding. Please note the price does not include pub lunch — you may also bring a packed lunch to eat outside if you prefer.
