About the Symposium
‘From the personal to the universal’
Wednesday 10 April, 11am – 4pm
£10 including lunch
Live BSL interpretation and note taking

The current overhaul of benefits has intensified debate about who is disabled, and the necessity to 'perform' this identity to be validated. Meanwhile Disabled artists enjoyed perhaps their highest profile yet in the UK through Unlimited and other London 2012 Paralympics programmes.

This symposium brings together artists, campaigners and producers to discuss the implications and opportunities for Disability Arts and its activist role in the wider social context. The artists exhibiting in the accompanying exhibition 'People Like You' will also discuss the works in the show.

Speakers include Hassan Mahamdallie (Arts Council England / the Creative Case for Diversity); Dr Sarah Bennett (University of Plymouth); Marc Steene (Pallant House Gallery / Outside In); Jo Verrent (producer and artist; co-curator, Push Me)

Plus: Screening of ‘Total Permission’ with Q&A
Wednesday 10 April 7pm
£7 / discount rate of £3 for symposium attendees

Details and booking for both events can be found at http://www.salisburyartscentre.co.uk/whats-on/visual-arts.aspx
