Can brain damage spark creativity? What is the role of memory in art? Is it right to categorise people by their conditions? Which aspects of an artist’s skill are affected by dementia, and which ones are preserved? These are just some of the questions that Affecting Perception: Art & Neuroscience, investigates.
Affecting Perception is a project with three strands: an exhibition at O3 Gallery, a seminar series taking place in various Oxford venues and workshops in local schools.
The exhibition showcases leading artists affected by conditions of the brain and inspired by recent discoveries in neuroscience. By examining these artists together for the first time, Affecting Perception looks at the connection between art and the mind. Artists include Jon Sarkin, JJ Ignatious Brennan, Yoshimasa Kato, Yuichi Ito and Nicholas Wade.
‘Affecting Perception: Art and Neuroscience’ will on display at the O3 Gallery from the 2nd-31st March 2013.
