The BIG Frieze - An exhibition of larger paintings
This month Zimmer Stewart Gallery will show a series of larger paintings by Piers Ottey, Barbara Macfarlane, Nick Bodimeade and others.
Piers Ottey continues his London paintings with a series of Battersea Power Station, chronicling the changes in this iconic building over the coming years. His very large "Old Portsmouth" painting (2m x 1.5m) is reminiscent of the Venice paintings of Canaletto.
Barbara Macfarlane's style of painting and use of the large sheets of handmade cotton rag paper are perfect to represent the Sussex coastline and the Downs. These abstract landscapes are up to 2m long and framed in hardwood.
Nick Bodimeade's is well known for his Beach scenes in oil on linen, with seemingly few paint strokes and using a "reverse painting" technique he is able to evoke the heat haze on a hot day and remind us all of happy days spent by the sea in the Summer.
James Stewart, Gallery Director says "I enjoy our New Year Mixed Show because it gives me a chance to show the very large paintings that we would not otherwise have space for in the gallery".
We will also have a range of smaller paintings, original prints, ceramics and bronzes to show visitors on request.
