Have you ever wanted to write? Come and have a go in a friendly and supportive environment and beautiful surroundings. Art will be used to spark your imagination and tap into your inner creativity. Participants will visit the Last of the Dictionary Men exhibition and will be encouraged to respond and write pieces inspired by the installations. The resulting texts will be published online. Join us for this exciting masterclass with Dr Fadia Faqir on; Saturday March 9th, 10.00am-3.00pm Dr Fadia Faqir is the author of Nisanit, Pillar of Salt and My Name is Salma/ The Cry of the Dove. Her work has been translated into fifteen languages and published in nineteen countries. The prologue of her fourth novel At the Midnight Kitchen was published in Weber Studies and won their 2009 fiction prize. Her short story Under the Cypress Tree was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize 2010 and will be published in Wasafiri soon. Dr Faqir received an Arts Council of England grant to write her fifth novel, The Terrorist's Daughter. East Anglia University awarded her the first Ph.D. in Critical and Creative Writing in the UK. She is a Writing Fellow at St Aidan's College, Durham University, where she teaches creative writing. She is also the founder of the Durham Sanctuary for Women Writers. Fiction from Art masterclass is free of charge, open to anyone aged 18+ and suitable for complete beginners and those who have some writing experience. Numbers are limited.
