About

In this achingly romantic tale, handsome young Tariq is about to marry Bilquis, eldest daughter of a prominent and powerful judge. Although Tariq and Bilquis have never met, the match seems heaven-made with both families overjoyed. But when Tariq wanders the ancient city of Sana'a late one night, he spots a beautiful young woman wearing the billowy white dress he had sent his fiancée as a gift. He falls madly in love with her, assuming her to be his betrothed. But things are not quite what they seem and soon the young groom must choose between following his heart and protecting his family's honour. Filmed entirely on location in the ancient city of Sana'a, this is the first feature film ever to come out of Yemen, and the first Yemeni film to be shown at Cannes Film Festival. Bader Ben Hirsi is an award-winning British-Yemeni director, writer and playwright. He began his career as a theatre playwright and director with numerous successes at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. After reading for an MA in Drama Production from GoldsmithàŠ¼s College, London University, Bader turned his attention to projects promoting a different image of the Arab World with his first award winning feature documentary The English Sheikh & The Yemeni Gentleman generating great international appeal. Soon after, he went on to write and direct A New Day In Old SanaàŠ¼a which again won an accolade of awards and global recognition Tickets: £5 Book Now! http://www.wegottickets.com/event/203850 Pay online or reserve a place and pay on the door rsvp@mosaicrooms.org A New Day In Old Sana'a, 2005, 86min, Bader Ben Hirsi, Arabic with English Subtitles
