About

2022NQ are beginning the new year by presenting a different view of Manchester and Salford, in a unique and new exhibition entitled, Streetview.

Streetview has been curated by Manchester blog award-winner, writer and creator of Skyliner, Hayley Flynn, and brings together over 40 new works presenting alternative, unique and contemporary views of Manchester, and Salford, from a 'google-streetview' style perspective, in the form of sketches, embroidery, photography, painting and sculpture.

The exhibition includes work from internationally renowned graphic-illustrator Stanley Chow, formerly a local Manchester DJ and now a regular contributor to the New Yorker, plus a Valette-inspired drawing from North-West based artist Clare Allan, capturing an iconic spot in Manchester which Valette himself drew centuries earlier; and a new cardboard sculpture from Manchester based artist, Mark O'Brien, recreating the iconic Church St Records building, once a much loved and distinctive low-fi, budget vinyl retailer, with unforgettable character.

The exhibition will also feature vibrant cartoon creations from Manchester born, Los-Angeles based cartoonist, Luke McGarry, the youngest ever recipient of the National Cartoonists Society's Silver T-Square prize. Additional works in the exhibition were selected via a call for submissions, and have culminated to create an eclectic variety of views ofManchester and Salford.

Streetview will also feature a spin-off exhibition from Secret Cities photographer Andrew Brooks and illustrator Michael Morrell, who documented the historic demolition of the BBC on Oxford Road, Manchester, earlier in 2012 and captured history in the making; Brooks through his distinctive style of photography and Morrell through his unique illustrations. For this exhibition they have combined their skills to create a comical, historical newspaper style narrative of the event.

Music for the evening will be provided in the form of Dots and Loops duo, James Travis and Matt Dean. The Streetview exhibition launch party also coincides with Burn's night, an historic Scottish celebration commemorating one of Scotland's most prolific cultural icons, poet, Robert Burns, creator of the popular New Year's eve song, 'Auld Lang Syne'. To complement this celebration, guests will also be treated to complimentary snacks from well-known Scottish brand, Tunnock's, chocolate tea-cakes.
