Rebecca’s ‘Three’ series invites you to look at the female form in a new light.

Rebecca’s ‘Three’ series invites you to look at the female form in a new light. No longer do we gaze at the figure from a far, instead these paintings draw you into observing the weight of arms in relation to another, the bodies stretching, moving and being still.
The complexities and subtleties of the human form are displayed all at once. The outcome is that the paintings have a life of their own, so that they become a vivid and altered version of the original imagery.
Taking influences from Graphic Novels, Films and literature; this series is a refreshing and exciting portrayal of the human form.

At the beginning of February 2012, Rebecca embarked on her solo project to explore the role of the body within her paintings. The show, entitled ‘Three’, is centred on the interaction of three life models. During the initial photography session, Rebecca directed the
models into many configurations, in which arms, legs, hands, heads and breasts are layered, concealed and isolated to form a visually rich mesh of human forms.
This session became the basis for the series and it quickly became apparent to Rebecca the intriguing images that could be produced from such a situation.

Rebecca’s approach to painting is to dramatically heighten the colours, light and depth, whilst retaining the presence and physicality of a recognizable human form. The need for Rebecca to paint life like images has dominated her work since her foundation course, but in hope to
explore new areas of the subject matter it is the use of the numerous models, cropping and
intense use of colour that defy the conventions of what traditional nude painting is.
“Three” is Rebecca Molloy’s debut London solo show.
