She Who Tells a Story: Narratives of Creativity by Women From the Middle East

A half-day symposium exploring the ways in which women working across the Middle East, and across various creative practices (art, literature, film, journalism, blogging, curating), have sought to tell their, and others’, stories. Reflecting on issues such as the politics of self-representation, and the challenges and possibilities afforded by their identities as women.

Confirmed speakers include:

DR ANNA BALL (CHAIR) Senior Lecturer in English, specialising in postcolonial feminist studies, at Nottingham Trent University.

LINA BEN MHENN Tunisian internet activist, blogger and lecturer who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

DALIA KHAMISSY (RAWIYA ARTIST)
Born in Beirut, Dalia’s work revolves around the social and socio-political stories in the Middle Eastern region.

MYRIAM ABDELAZIZ (RAWIYA ARTIST)
Myriam Abdelaziz is a French photographer of Egyptian origins, born in Cairo.

DR ZAHERA HARB Zahera is a Lebanese journalist and academic who has covered war operations in the battlefield of South Lebanon.

MARTA WEISS Marta has curated exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum. Her most recent project is the V&A’s Light from the Middle East: New Photography (until 7 April 2013).

YASMINA REGGAD Director of Photo-Festivals and independent curator. She Co-Founded the Photo Forum Beirut (Lebanon).
