Format Exposure: Therblig Wideyed

New Art Exchange is pleased to present Therblig, an exhibition by Wideyed, an artist-led collective comprising the photographers Lucy Carolan, Richard Glynn and Louise Taylor. Therblig is part of the FORMAT International Photography Festival organised by QUADin partnership with the University of Derby.

This year’s FORMAT theme is ‘factory’ and ‘mass production’. In response to this, Wideyed have created an installation inspired by the work of Lillian and Frank Gilbreth. These motion study pioneers from the early 1900’s used long exposure photography and film, as tools to study the work habits of manufacturing and clerical employees. The objective of the research was to improve the well-being and productivity of workers. The Gilbreth’s coined the term Therblig (their name in reverse) in relation to their research. This exhibition is sponsored by SCA tissue mill in Prudhoe, Northumberland.

FORMAT13 is the 6th edition of the festival. For full details of the wider festival programme see: www.formatfestival.com.
