Scottish Dance Theatre, Second Coming / Winter, Again

About

Scottish Dance Theatre (SDT) is Scotland's leading contemporary dance company. Under the new direction of Fleur Darkin, SDT presents two contrasting new works by internationally acclaimed choreographers that showcase the power, technique and theatricality of the dancers. Second Coming by Montreal-based Victor Quijada draws on movement influenced by the street-dance culture that surrounded him in Los Angeles growing up. A combination of Victor's break movement style and a turntablist soundtrack by DJ/composer Jasper Gahunia (AKA DJ Lil' Jaz) who has scratched classical samples into cavernous soundscapes, results in a fresh, witty piece, tinted with notions of regret, yet full of surprises. Winter, Again, by Norwegian choreographer Jo Strømgren, cycles through the darkest of seasons, with underlying questions and mysterious happenings underpinned by Schubert's Eine Winterreise. Strømgren is renowned globally as a choreographer, director and playwright, and draws upon various disciplines to produce powerful, radical dance theatre.
