'Human Made Things' is aspex’s latest exhibition to explore the question ‘Does Making Things Make Us Human?’ and presents some fascinating ways in which artists are transforming elements of the natural world to communicate their ideas. The show features the work of three UK based artists working with a diverse range of media and employing innovative and ambitious methods to produce stunning results.
While conceptually distinct and drawing upon different and sometimes personal references, Andy Holden’s knitted stone sculptures ‘The Cookham Erratics’, Sarah Dobai’s film ‘Nettlecoombe’ and Suzanne Moxhay’s photographic series ‘Penumbra’, manipulate natural world environments, objects and forces to present the viewer with a distorted, immersive and deceptive experience by utilising subtle, elaborate and occasionally playful means.
aspex is more than a gallery, it is a space for questions, creating conversations and cultivating connections. The question occupying aspex at the moment is ‘Does Making Things Make Us Human?’ The gallery will explore this through its exhibition programme and associated events and activities, inviting its visitors to contribute at every opportunity.
