About

The innovative art-science project, Going Viral, is the culmination of a collaborative work programme by six artists and four immunologists. Through their joint exploration of key functions of our immune system — and the daily battles it fights — the Going Viral artists have produced artworks that consider, question, interpret and present the immunology they researched. Going Viral, the exhibition, is at the Brick Lane Gallery (www.thebricklanegallery.com) from 22nd November until 2nd December. Having interpreted and expressed their understanding of the tools and processes of scientific research, the artists each focused on different aspects. Some chose to focus on specific conditions, some on wider aspects of immunology and the body's inflammatory responses, while it was the technology that attracted others. Throughout, a key element is the exploration of the personal stories and the human faces of ‘immunology' from the perspectives of patients, practitioners, researchers and the artists themselves. After it opened in Glasgow in early September, the experiences and encounters of those who visited Going Viral are spreading, virus-like, across real and virtual networks and will continue to grow beyond the life of the exhibition itself.
