Aktis Gallery’s exhibition begins with El Lissitsky’s ‘Sportsmen,’ a set of 10 lithographs made in 1923 for an electro-mechanical puppet performance in Germany based on the futurist opera, Victory of the Sun, first performed in St Petersburg in 1913. El Lissitsky (1890-1941) was a leading member of the Russian avant-garde, a suprematist known principally for his abstract art and typographical designs.
