Tim Hayward: Birds of Prey

About

Jonathan Cooper Park Walk Gallery is pleased to present Birds of Prey, a new exhibition of watercolour paintings depicting British and Northern birds of prey in flight by Tim Hayward. Hayward's dramatic paintings of these magnificent birds - many of which are life size - capture the drama of the birds soaring and in pursuit of their prey. Researching his subjects has taken Hayward across Britain, from the Hobby's and Harriers on the Somerset Levels, Sparrowhawks, Kestrels and Barn Owl close to his home in Devon, The Merlin on Exmoor, Peregrines in Cornwall, Kites in Wales and the Chilterns, to the Ospreys in Scotland, whilst the Sea Eagles were seen off Mull. Hayward's subtlety in rendering textures in watercolour and gouache, and accuracy of line and form demonstrate a lifetime's study and fascination with wildlife. Ideas for his paintings begin from thumbnail sketches, which are worked up to a full size drawing, guided by field sketches, taxidermy props or other references.
