About

Welcome to Meeksville celebrates the work of Joe Meek, pioneering and influential record producer, in the area surrounding the building where he lived, worked and produced a string of innovative hit records at 304 Holloway Road. Although well known in underground and music circles Joe Meek is a little known figure to many of those who pass his old studio every day, a building that was an experimental hit-factory for seven years and was visited by musicians such as Jimmy Page, David Bowie, Tom Jones and Gene Vincent. The 50th anniversary on the 4th October 2012 of Telstar, Meek's most recognisable and commercially successful work, reaching the top of the UK charts affords a one-off and opportune moment to re-evaluate his importance and celebrate his achievements. A night of music, film, art and performance featuring: The Triumphs…The UK's top Joe Meek Tribute Band Playing RGM Classics The Lost Sound Project HEAR THE ORIGINAL CLAVIOLINE FROM TELSTAR PLAYED LIVE! Rare screening of the Telstar Scopitone Film Performance Art and Special Guests Meeksville DJ Plus a SURPRISE VISUAL SPECTACULAR! Free Entry - all welcome! Also from 14th September - 12th October Joe Meek Listening Stations at Archway Library, North Library, Central Library and Islington Museum. Welcome to Meeksville is a project by artist Nicola Shilcock. It is supported by Arts Council England, AIR at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design and Islington Council
